The Evan’s family approached our team to transform their ensuite bathroom into a space that was easily accessible after they had gone through a period of ill health. They specifically requested that they wanted the space to provide easy access and comfort but did not look like it had been adapted for a disability.
They wanted the appearance of their new bathroom to be bright and airy without being white or clinical. We used a muted teal as an accent colour, and incorporated this into the shower seat, back wall, as well as the basin unit. The subtle pop of color would ensure the bathroom remained timeless.
One of the key features of the bathroom was the shower. Comfort and accessibility, were our core focus when designing the space. We built a shower seat to ensure that our client had a comfortable and secure space to sit whilst bathing. Niches were integrated within the shower for easy access to toiletries, and an anti-slip tray was included for safety reasons.
We repurposed the existing oak worktop and used it as a feature on top of the concealed WC, adding warmth and sustainability to the design. A large backlit vanity mirror was installed to align with the feature tile zone, enhancing both functionality and visual impact. We also installed brushed gunmetal brassware as it contrasts beautifully against marble-effect tiles, creating a refined and contemporary look. With our client’s health considerations, we used materials and finishes with easy-to-clean properties. This would ensure that the bathroom had a low level of maintenance whilst also being an elegant retreat.
