For this ensuite renovation, we set out to create a bathroom that blended rustic charm with the clean lines and functionality of modern design. The result is a country-modern space that feels both cozy and contemporary, while staying true to the character of our client’s period property.

Our client opted for a soft grey neutral colour scheme and paired it with natural stone to create a light and airy palette. This not only enhances the feeling of space but also adds warmth and texture, ensuring the bathroom complements the rest of the home.

The ensuite’s layout presented some unique challenges, as the room was narrow with a sloped ceiling. Making the most of the usable space was key, so we removed the bath and replaced it with a large walk-in shower featuring an angled corner seat for added comfort.

Creating ample practical storage was paramount in this design, so intensive carpentry work was completed. We designed and built two shaker doors to conceal the drawer storage, as well as a practical alcove with a lift-up laundry basket by the vanity, and a display niche shelf with soft recessed lighting. In the shower, we added an additional small rectangular niche with LED lighting to provide storage for toiletries.

Vanities are often the showstopping element of bathroom design, and this is no exception! We installed a custom made in-frame shaker style vanity unit by Willow Tree, painted in a soft grey. The unit was paired with a white Silestone worktop and an undermounted with a Vitra ceramic basin, to create a truly timeless design. The superb craftsmanship on this vanity, as well as it’s practical drawer storage & lower display storage truly makes it such as standout feature of the ensuite. 

To enhance the country-modern aesthetic our client wanted, we installed a cladded rustic limestone feature wall behind the vanity and LED mirror. Combined with the ambient lighting, this creates a calm and neutral feel.

Finally, we selected chrome traditional-style brassware throughout, a timeless choice that harmonises beautifully with the neutral palette and completes the balance between traditional and modern design.

We’re really proud of how this project turned out — a stylish, practical, and inviting ensuite that honours the property’s heritage while offering all the comfort and convenience of contemporary living.
