This bathroom transformation was part of a larger renovation for a client who had recently relocated from the USA to South Wales. Settling into a beautiful barn conversion, the client brought a love of the UK countryside and an eye for traditional country interiors – but with a bold, modern twist.
A key inspiration came from the client's chosen wallpaper: ‘Nuvole’ by Cole & Son. This dramatic, cloud-filled design set the tone for the space and became the focal point of the room. To complement this feature, we designed a scheme that incorporated large format marble-effect tiles in the shower area for simplicity and elegance, while installing half-height panelling around the rest of the room, topped with the statement wallpaper.
To highlight the wallpaper, we installed a large backlit “horizon” style mirror above the vanity. The gentle glow from the mirror enhanced the texture and tones of the wallpaper beautifully, creating a soft yet striking atmosphere.
The client, known for their love of quirky design details and passion for supporting local businesses, sourced the vanity unit themselves from Happy Day’s in Cowbridge – a charming reclaimed furniture store. This unique piece added character and personal flair to the space.
We opted for black-framed griddled glass in the shower area, offering bold contrast against the white marble tile while tying in with the dark wall panelling. Oak-effect LVT flooring brought warmth and softened the overall look.
Brassware was chosen from Thomas Crapper’s Fontley range in unlacquered brass with distinctive wheel-handle details for added quirkiness. To complete the design, ornate ribbed brass lighting was installed around the toilet area, adding both ambient light and decorative charm.
The result is a unique, countryside-inspired space that blends tradition, character, and modern sophistication.
